Ontario Trap Rock, a division of R.W. Tomlinson Limited, is a specialty aggregate quarry located near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The 1,000 acre site contains more than 80 million tons of aggregate known as “Diabase”. More commonly referred to as “Trap Rock”, this aggregate is a very hard, durable material with physical properties far exceeding the most stringent specifications.
Prized for our consistently reliable gradations, this product is depended on for superior thermal and acoustic properties in rock wool insulation; relied on for strength in specialty concrete applications and trusted by the railroad industry for resistance to deterioration in rail ballast. Those in the hot-mix paving industry use our products with confidence to produce skid-resistant, durable, long-lasting road surfaces.
Located on the northern shores of Lake Huron, the operation required significant investment to meet our standards and vision. The building of a ship loading facility and the dredging of an existing channel now facilitates access for self-unloading lake freighters. Since the first ship was loaded in 1995, our reputation for exceptional quality and superior customer service has grown.
